AJ Lee was one of WWE’s most popular stars before retiring from in-ring competition in 2015.

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion EC3 recently gave his take on whether the 37-year-old could return to WWE.

In 2023, CM Punk unexpectedly re-signed with WWE almost a decade after walking out on the company.

The RAW star has been married to AJ Lee since 2014.

EC3 appeared on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws with host Dr. Chris Featherstone and former WWE writer Vince Russo. He predicted that fans could see AJ Lee back one day:

“Yeah, I think I can see a cameo or two or a short run,” EC3 said. [7:55 – 7:58]

AJ Lee started a new career as an author and screenwriter after departing WWE. For that reason, EC3 thinks the three-time Divas Champion is in no rush to get back in the ring:

“I didn’t know she was involved in all that. It sounds super cool. I mean, she doesn’t need to come back. There’s no need. It would only be a want. If she wants to, I’m sure the door is open for the duration she’d want, but at the same time if she’s totally fulfilled conquering something new, kudos to her. That’s awesome.” [8:27 – 8:47]

Vince Russo unsure if AJ Lee will return to WWE

In the late 1990s, Vince Russo was WWE’s co-head writer when RAW often drew its highest television ratings.

Russo believes AJ Lee could be tempted to return to WWE when her husband is back from a triceps injury. However, he thinks writing is her main priority right now:

“You know, bro, if Punk is healthy when he comes back and he’s gonna be on the road a lot, the need could be wanting to be with your husband on the road,” Russo said. “That could be the need. I don’t think it’s got anything to do with money. I’m sure they are both very, very well off. And also, bro, the business he says she’s trying to break into, bro, that’s not easy. Anybody can start a production company and you can start writing TV shows and all this. Anyone can do that. To get them sold is something completely different, so it’s not easy.” [8:58 – 9:34]

Russo also revealed how he would include CM Punk’s dog, Larry, in the current storyline with Drew McIntyre.
