Another week, another very newsworthy edition of SmackDown. With an acknowledgment ceremony scheduled, some of you may have been expecting a surprise return from Roman Reigns or The Rock. That didn’t happen, and the big twist was Paul Heyman refusing to acknowledge Soloa Sikoa, and being violently dealt with for it. Earlier in the evening, the ceremony was delayed thanks to Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens, and during that segment, there may have been a clue that the trio isn’t entirely on the same page.
That Look From The Viper
Before Nick Aldis had them removed, an amped-up Rhodes cut an emotional promo about having to stop doing what he’d like to do on WWE shows because he keeps having to deal with The Bloodline. Rhodes got a big cheer when he said if it wasn’t for The Bloodline, he could be defending his title against worthy challengers on a regular basis, and some fans at home noticed Orton’s reaction to that comment.

Randy Orton is having more fun during this WWE run than ever, highlighted by a hilarious joke he cracked about WWE announcing his weight.
As Rhodes passionately yells that he should be defending his WWE Championship against a worthy opponent right there on SmackDown, Orton stops in his tracks, a few feet behind Rhodes so the champ can’t see him, and shoots The American Nightmare a look. Orton keeps his eyes on Rhodes for a few seconds before moving on, convincing some The Viper is already thinking about the day he’ll turn on Rhodes to try and win the title from him.
A Viper And A Prizefighter
Subtle nods like this are something Orton and others who have been wrestling at the top of the card for as long as he has are great at. If and when Orton does turn on Rhodes, it will be moments like this that we look back on, gathering evidence that the WWE Champion should have never trusted the 14-time World Champion, no matter how much he might have helped him in his war against The Bloodline.
There’s no getting around the fact Orton has a history of betrayal too. He’s not called The Viper for nothing. Even without the subtle look, most fans would have already assumed that this is eventually going to end in tears for Rhodes. Owens is hardly the most trustworthy person on the roster either. His nickname’s The Prizefighter, and right now Rhodes is holding the ultimate prize. They’re all focused on stopping The Bloodline for now, but eventually, I can see both turning on Rhodes hoping they can take the title from him.
